Poet Biography - Blanca A. Alanis

Blanca A. Alanis - Mexican born poet whose lived most of her life in Houston, Tejas. As a child she discovered a love for reading and began writing poetry in her teens. In 2008, she opened a bilingual bookstore to promote literacy, arts, and Mexican American culture. Some of Houston's best artists, poets, and authors exhibited their work at Heights Books-Libros. Her first work was published by Boundless 2010, the Rio Grande Valley International Poetry Festival. Houston’s El Pueblo Newspaper published several of her Spanish poems. Her first poetry book will be available August 2013. Blanca is a Spoken Word Performer and an organizer for the WAT Houston Poetry Tour.

Spacetaker//Fresh Arts will host Make.Play.Speak. at Boheme Cafe and Wine Bar for Cultured Cocktails on Thursday, June 28th. This special happy hour will also benefit Word Around Town 2012 Poetry Tour and other spoken word artists//events in the Houston area. Performers will be added soon.

There will be music, laughter, poetry and of course social lubricants (libations.)

JUNE 21/ThoughtCrime/W.A.T!? 2012 Poetry Draft

This year, to shake up the status quo, W.A.T?! has decided to host a one-night “Poetry Draft” – any and all poets are invited to bring their best work and read in front of a crowd and W.A.T?! organizers. The prize: a slot in this year’s line-up for the Word Around Town Poetry Tour. Currently, seven slots are up for the taking.

Each poet will perform two poems in an open mic setting in front of the organizers and audience. The organizers will announce their decisions the following week via email.
